Medium-carbon ferromanganese is a specific type of ferromanganese alloy categorized by its carbon content, a metallurgical term established in 2019. This ferromanganese alloy contains carbon levels ranging from 0.7% to 2.0% and is primarily produced through methods such as electrosilicon thermal reduction, shake bag method, and oxygen blowing method, requiring the use of siliceous reducing agents and refining processes during smelting.
In the iron and steel industry, medium-carbon ferromanganese serves crucial roles as a deoxidizer, desulfurizer, and as an additive in alloy production. It is extensively utilized in the smelting of various manganese products, particularly in special steel grades like stainless steel and tool steel.
International production statistics indicate that the consumption of medium-carbon ferromanganese per ton of steel remains between 0.7-1.0 kg, and its production process often operates in conjunction with high-carbon ferromanganese and manganese-silicon alloys.

Medium-carbon ferromanganese, a type of ferromanganese alloy, primarily consists of manganese and iron. According to current metallurgical standards, it is classified into three categories based on carbon content: low-carbon type (≤0.7%), medium-carbon type (0.7%-2.0%), and high-carbon type (≥2.0%). This classification system is recognized by key industrial nations globally, although Japan and the former Federal Republic of Germany have specific differences in technical parameters for the formulation of standards regarding low- and medium carbon ferromanganese.
